RADIO LOLLIPOP

Adsat is proud to be the sole South African steward of Radio Lollipop International, operating from the prestigious Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg.

Founded in the UK in 1979, Radio Lollipop is an international charity organisation with the mission to provide care, comfort, play and entertainment for children and young people, primarily in hospitals. The service to children and young people is provided entirely by Volunteers who have been especially selected, and trained to make a child’s stay in hospital more fun and less frightening.

After 38 years operating entirely as a volunteer organisation, Radio Lollipop has gone on to open more than 30 Radio Lollipops in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Radio Lollipop South Africa is the first of its kind on the African continent.

Believing in the power of radio, music and play for healing, the reward of seeing a quiet, withdrawn and sick child return to a confident, happy child is immense.

We deliver an interactive service using both the medium of radio and volunteers;

The inhospital radio station & play studio

  • The radio is simply the biggest ‘toy’ in our ‘toy box’
  • We broadcast from there to the children in the hospital
  • The kids that are well enough join in the broadcast or simply play and do craft activities in the play area

The Volunteers;

  • The play volunteers are possibly our the most important asset
  • Volunteers visit the wards and play with and entertain the children who can’t leave their beds
  • They also interact with the children and the radio broadcast – involving the children to win prizes, request their favourite songs and talk on the radio.

Radio Lollipop is exceptionally well regarded in the field of Paediatrics for the benefits that it brings to the recovery of a sick child.
